The Quinta São João Batista is a colonial-style manor house with a century-old history. Its cellar includes one of the most extensive and impressive barrel collections (585 barrels) in the Tejo region. The estate is located in one of the UNESCO designated Biospheres in Portugal, the Paul Do Boquilobo Biosphere Reserve, the first protected area of Portugal in the Biosphere reserve. It, therefore, is an excellent spot to observe various migratory birds on their route.
The estate has a total area of about 145 hectares, of which 130 hectares are vineyards. Its location in the demarcated region of the Tejo and its clay-limestone soils are ideal terroir for red grape varieties, which is the focus of the winery.
They have traditional grape varieties such as Castelão, Trincadeira Preta, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, and several international varieties such as Syrah, Alicante Bouchet and Cabernet Sauvignon. White wines have the traditional grape variety, Fernão Pires and international varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Their unique and distinguished character Tejo wines include brands such as the Cabeça de Toiro and Quinta São João Batista wines.
The estate offers guided visits to its traditional winery with modern winemaking, wine tasting and gastronomic experiences. Furthermore, it also has seasonal activities such as harvest and pruning experiences as well as horse-drawn carriage rides throughout its vineyards and beautiful gardens where you can observe plant species of the region and migratory birds.
