Quinta de San Michel is in the Lisbon wine-growing region, more precisely in the Colares region, 20 minutes from the capital. And 5 minutes from the sea, which gives it an Atlantic-influenced climate that enhances the wines' fresh and saline character. Today, it has vineyards on hard ground and sandy ground, the latter of which are still very recent.
The Quinta belongs to the Camilo family, who moved to the village of Janas, Sintra, with the intention of putting the village back on Portugal's wine map. When it came to planting the vines, the choice fell on the traditional grape varieties of the Colares region, Malvasia do Colares and Arinto. Today they also have other Portuguese grape varieties including Galego Dourado, Castelão, and Ramisco, the last one being very typical of this Colares region.
In the very near future, they will have DOC Colares wines, making the best possible contribution to preserving one of Portugal's smallest wine-growing regions. You can visit the property, small winery, and enjoy a tasting of their delicious wines.
