The Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima estate is one of the largest (660 hectares) and most important agricultural farms on the south bank of the Tagus (Tejo) River. Located in an area of undeniable beauty, about 2km away from the town of Alpiarça, it has belonged for 6 centuries to the Order of Santiago de Espada, and then to the 2nd Count of Palmela, and was passed on to the Palmela family under which it still belongs to this present day.
The estate was certified in 1888 as a wine producer and currently has 45 ha of vineyards which are located in one of the best terroirs of the Tejo region, which includes both national and international grape varieties. Lagoalva also as a wide range of agriculture in addition to producing wine and olive oil, and also has one of the oldest stud farms in the country that dates back to the 18th century. Furthermore, they have one of the most incredible collections of old horse drawn carriages which have been restored and are now on display for tourists to see in a small museum.
Quinta da Lagoalva provides its visitors with unique experiences ranging from wine tastings to guided estate visits, including the chapel, the Lusitano stud farm and museum, where visitors can see an exhibition of the old Lagoalva horse carriages. Visitors can also enjoy a day in the countryside with a horsedrawn carriage ride through the beautiful landscapes of the property among the vineyards, olive and cork trees.
