The Quinta da Folgorosa is a wine estate dating back to the beginning of the 18th century, located in Dois Portos in the municipality of Torres Vedras, in the Lisboa wine region. A tour of the property transports us back to some of its history, which in the 19th century, was a place where French troops stayed overnight during the invasions and actually both Wellington and Juneau passed through and stayed in Folgorosa. Wellington spoke about the wines here as being the best in the region and this was mainly because the Arinto wines resisted well to shipping and distribution.
Casa da Folgorosa was built in 1910 by the famous architect at the time, Ernesto Korrodi and it went through a series of owners. In 2019, the farm is acquired by Thomas Lindeborg, a Finn passionate about wines and Portugal, who is changing the concept of the farm's wines to organic farming and adopting more sustainable practices. The Lindeborg group actually own 4 different wineries in the Lisbon, Tejo, and Alentejo regions (Vale do Armo, Vinhos Cortem, Herdade da Cabeceira, and Folgorosa).
To visit this winery is to learn a little about the history of Portugal and the ancestral practices that respect nature and the environment. Where you can taste young or aging wines showing their Atlantic terroir and always accompanied by regional products. You will be able to walk up to the old windmill and have some spectacular views over the vineyard and have a very professional wine tasting experience which will include local delicacies straight from the winery’s own garden.
