Since 1980, this family-owned company has stood out in the production of excellent red and white wines. In the 180 hectare vineyards of Quinta da Almiara, various selected red and white grape varieties are carefully cultivated, such as Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Castelão, Aragonez, Caladoc, Syrah, Fernão Pires, and Moscatel.
In the beginning, Quinta da Almiara sold grapes to the Torres Vedras cooperative, totaling 80 million liters, representing the largest wine production in the region. In 2004, the company began its own production. Initially, 90% of the wine was sold in bulk to other wineries. In 2009, they started bottling 10% of the production, while the remaining 90% continued to be sold in bulk to other wineries in the region. Currently, they produce about 30,000 bottles per year. The bottles are sold in the region, in wine shops, grocery stores, and restaurants, with a focus on Lisbon. Cadaval is one of the regions that receives a selection of the best wines for bottling.
To ensure the quality of the wines, only grapes grown on the property are used. They are carefully vinified in the winery, which underwent a complete renovation. The winery has a storage capacity of 5 million liters in stainless steel tanks, providing ideal conditions for the vinification process.
The Torres Vedras region, recognized as D.O.C. (D.O.C. stands for "Denominação de Origem Controlada" in Portuguese, which translates to "Controlled Designation of Origin" in English), stands out for the quality of its wines, influenced by the local soils and climate. The reds are full bodied and dry, with high alcohol content, while the whites are fruity and light, with a distinct aroma and low alcohol content.
Visitors can do classic tours and tastings as well as brunches, picnics, and jeep tours. The fabulous architecture of the building also makes it very interesting to visit.
