The estate was purchased by João Afonso in 2009 and has breathtaking views of the Alentejo and São Mamede hills. It is at an altitude of 600 metres, near the River Caia, and has a total 8 hectares and 6 hectares of vineyards which were also planted in 2009. It also has olive groves, 2 vegetable gardens, all kinds of native fruit trees, chicken coop, a large garden, wood, all organic and all surrounding an 11-bedroom house with a small cellar which includes their winery. It’s a true paradise near the São Mamede hills.
The owner, João Afonso, is also the winemaker and they have a small production of delicious organic wines and bottling and labelling all their wines on their property. Two of their wines are certified organic and the rest all follow organic agricultural principles with minimal intervention. Fieldwork and cellar work are carried out with absolute respect and in harmony with the environment. The vines are field blend old vines, some up to 80 years old, which make for very interesting and original wines.
You can stay at the their small hotel and feel like you are staying at home as they have a beautiful common room with a fireplace and large windows overlooking the pool and vineyard and gardens. They have two tastings which include a visit of the property, vines and winery.
