A family project which was created by Comendador Manuel Barbeiro Costa in 2006 and which has grown both in terms of vineyard, currently 40 hectares, and also in terms of physical wine tourism space, production, machinery and technology. Geographically it is about 4 km in a straight line from the Atlantic Ocean, meaning there is great daily influence of the Atlantic winds. Furthermore, the sandy soils and sun exposure contribute to a unique terroir which gives its wines a minerality and therefore creating the characteristic mineral wines.
At Brejinho da Costa, the influence of the sea, the sandy soil and the Mediterranean climate are the factors that lead to the production of wines which are both bold and modern in character. Respect for nature and a reduced production make wines which have often surprised wine connoisseurs. The estate includes 125 ha of beautiful forest and vines, where spontaneous flowering is valued and encouraged, meaning many native fauna also make Brejinho their home.
Its name is derived from the characteristics of the region, long beaches and sandy areas called “brejinhas”, next to the pine forest, which served as raw material for the construction of ships at the time of the Portuguese Discoveries. From national to foreign grape varieties, such as Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc, Brejinho da Costa combines modernity, sustainability and rigour in its products. This combination results in wines that have stood out in Portugal and abroad, winners of several awards. This winery tries to find a balance between biodiversity and as minimal intervention as possible. Here you will find a number of visits and wine tastings as well as an incredible diving experience to fetch your own wine bottle at the bottom of the sea!
