ARVAD is a recent project, created in 2016 in the area of Silves, in the Algarve, more specifically on the banks of the River Arade, used as inspiration to name this dream. ARVAD means refuge and was the name initially attributed over 2,500 years ago by the Phoenician people to the Arade river.
There are 9 hectares of vines where we find red varieties such as Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional or Cabernet Sauvignon and white varieties such as Alvarinho, Arinto and Sauvignon Blanc. One of the secrets to produce these wines is the location of the vineyards on land which has a Mediterranean climate and large daily temperature ranges that are exposed to northern winds, as well as the limestone clay soil.
The first harvest of this new vineyard was in 2019 and that year the “Arvad Rosé 2019” won the Gold Medal in a tasting held by the Enologists Forum (Fórum de Enólogos). In 2021, the first three red wines referring to the 2019 winemaking were launched.
Care, dedication, and commitment are used in the production of ARVAD wines by its winemaker Bernardo Cabral.
You can visit the beautiful vineyards and the cellar and finish off with a selection of wine tastings and regional snacks on their beautiful terrace with spectacular views over the vineyard and river.
