At a stage in their lives when they were beginning to plan their retirement, a couple with Danish and Swiss roots decided to explore Portugal in search of a new chapter. It took only ten days for them to fall in love with the country and an abandoned plot of land in the Algarve. 9 hectares of wasteland with no water or electricity, quickly became a source of inspiration and a place filled with dreams and enthusiasm.
The discovery in 2005 of a long-forgotten propriety gave rise to the ambitious project we now know as Quinta dos Sentidos. The challenge of building a winery and olive oil production estate from scratch is remarkable. The vineyard installation began with clearing the land and carefully transplanting the old olive trees, which today enrich the oils of Quinta dos Sentidos. After, they planted 14,000 vines, one by one, by hand, in the rocky Algarve soil as well as a significant number of fruit and flowers from all over the world. This is one of the spectacular things which can be visited and tasted when at Quinta do Sentidos.
Four years passed from planting to the first harvest. Patience and dedication were rewarded when they could finally taste the first wine from Quinta dos Sentidos, receiving 90 points on the prestigious Robert Parker scale. This recognition confirmed that all the effort had been worthwhile.
Since 2013, Quinta dos Sentidos has been the couple's home, where they produce wines, olive oils, verjus, many types of fruit and flowers, and honey. Each batch and harvest are a source of pride, representing the dedication and passion invested in the project. Quinta dos Sentidos is an inspiring testament to how following dreams can result in extraordinary achievements. This is an example of how a passion for wine and the land can transform an abandoned plot into a thriving and acclaimed winery in the heart of the Algarve.
In addition to its impressive production, Quinta dos Sentidos has also embraced wine tourism, offering visitors an immersive experience into the world of wine and olive oil production. Guests can enjoy guided tours of the vineyards and olive groves, participate in tastings of the estate’s exquisite wines, oils, fruit and jams and learn about the meticulous processes that go into every bottle and jar.
