Near Estremoz's main square, Howard's Folly is the Alentejo's first urban winery, combining wine, art, and charity under one roof. British entrepreneur Howard Bilton joined award-winning Australian winemaker David Baverstock to produce high quality wines aligned with an outstanding creative environment. The art is such an important piece of this project that regional art prizes were created to promote its importance around the world. The Sovereign Art Foundation was created to provide these art prizes to then raise funds to assist underprivileged children using art classes as therapy and rehabilitation to give them a chance in life.
The winery is set inside an old warehouse next to a visitor's center, and includes the beautifully decorated Folly restaurant as well as an art gallery. At Howard’s Folly you try a world of experiences from several types of wine tastings to wine blending workshops.
